CPSIA

As of February 9, 2009, I will not be listing any more baby/toddler/children items. I will just be selling adult items.

This is in compliance with this law that is going into effect February 10, 2009.

I WILL be "fighting back" because while the intentions of this law are good, it's just not something a small business owner can keep up with.

There ARE things you can do. There are online petitions and form letters you can send to your representatives included in the thread I linked to.

Thank you for your support.

I was featured :)

Aw, I was featured on Smashgirl's blog here

I love when people think I'm worthy of blogging about. It makes me feel really appreciated. Thank you, Smashgirl!

Amazon Goodies

I can't wait until Tuesday when the goodies that I bought with my giftcards come! My mom sent me two giftcards this year- one for a clothing store and one for amazon.com. I wasn't the only one shopping either, according to this article "Amazon Says '08 Holiday Season Is 'Best Ever'" This season they set a selling record of 72.9 items per second. WOW!

Anyway, as you can see I bought some new sheets that were on sale. I can't wait to snuggle underneath them.

I also bought a new hair straightener. I really wanted a Chi because of all the hype, but when it came down to it, I couldn't make myself click "add to cart" when the Conair had 2 inch plates for a fraction of the cost. It also has the same rating as the Chi. I straighten my hair often and if this straightener is as good as the reviews say it is, I'll be blogging about it.

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to everyone. :) I'm going to my friend's for dinner today and I mulled over what to make them until I found this crochet amigurumi pattern for birds. I made a mama, a papa and a baby. *cough* The baby is the same size as the others but shhh.

You must be a member of the lionbrand website to see the pattern. I decided to make them ornaments- which was really easy. I just made a chain and threaded it though the top. I'm so pleased with them. I'm about to go wrap them up but I had to share the picture first. I hope they like them.

The Bucket List

Tonight I got together with a friend and we watched The Bucket List. Words can not describe how awesome I think this movie is. Jack Nicholson can always make my eyes tear up.

The movie inspired me to make my own bucket list on 43things.com. It's a work in progress but check it out! Some of the things are short term, but some are long term- like climbing the stairs of the Duomo.

There is free Project Wonderful ad space again. Take them, oh please, oh please. I hate seeing the "Your ad here" spaces.

Glamasaurus

Another chat-favorite of mine is glamasaurus.

I reallllly wanted one of these but I procrastinated too long and now I'm "broke". Ah, next year maybe.

I love these hairpins

Here's what glamasaurus had to say:

How long have you been crafting?
I have been crafting for as long as I can remember. I used to make little scenes with dollhouse miniatures. My grandparents actually still have them!

How long have you been making glamasaurus-type items?
Six years ago I moved to Switzerland. I couldn t find any hair clips I liked that were cute and funky so I started making my own. I branched out from there!

Where did you come up with your name?
One day it just came to me while I was in the shower. I could not get it out of my head so I asked my husband what he thought about it since he is my assistant in all things glamasaurus! We both liked it and then he whipped up my lovely website!

Cutie patootie. :)
If you would like your shop or website featured, feel free to leave a comment or e-mail at scarfmonsters@gmail.com.

Scarves for your iPods!

I just listed FOUR scarves for your iPods, mp3 players or cell phones. Or a pouch for extra cash or to hide stuff in.

Yeah, yeah. Spare me the lecture. I was way too excited to list only one a day!

Zack Morris is now a hottie?

Holy cow, I got curious during a commercial break. Remember the actor who played Zack Morris on Saved By The Bell??

HE IS SUCH A BABE NOW!

Cute stuff

Here are some cute items/sellers I've found recently. Enjoy! I'm off to a night of CSI: Miami marathon-ing. I also have chocolate, but don't tell!

Featured above: glamasaurus, Buttonhead, craftsty, blahleahblah, mncmoon, crazyjaneknits, LilyChina, retrofied, SparklePaw, lillyella, penguinandfish and katebroughton. This will probably change as I find more cute stuff!

PS- I JUST noticed that there are now two free project wonderful ad spaces on the left sidebar of my blog. Grab 'em while you can :)

Featsy

I just discovered Featsy which is a website that lets you see if you've been featured on the front page/gift guides. I typed in my name, expecting to see NOTHING but found this instead:

"For the week: December 11 - December 18. scarfmonsters is in the 6.67th percentile.

scarfmonsters Has been featured 1 times this week."

So I immediately went to google and after a little google-fu I found this cached page:

This is amazing to me. Little ol' me? *Glee*

YES YES YES!

I was approved for Financial Aid this semester!! This is the first time I've been approved. **HAPPY DANCE!**

I have my classes all set up too. This monster is going to be bussssy next semester!

ALSO I've decided, at the urging of a friend, to feature an Etsian every Tuesday!

Stamperooni

Imagine my delight when I met Stamperooni in one of the Etsy chat rooms a couple of weeks ago. Not only does she have cute monster commercial/supply stamps

but she also makes her own handcarved stamps!

A penguin!

I caught up with Stamperooni in chat earlier and we had a fun whisper session. She's a totally sweet seller. Here is just a tiny excerpt from the part of our conversation that is relevant. :)

scarfmonsters: Why do you make stamps?
Stamperooni: Because I couldn't find the type of stamps I was looking for, so I decided to just make them myself.
scarfmonsters: Which of your stamps is your favorite- or do you like them all equally?
Stamperooni: I love the little speech bubble ones that say Merci and Thank You the most.

There you have it! I'm off to go stare at her stamps for the next few hours.
Ta-Ta!

Artfire

I am now on Artfire, after being encouraged on twitter to join. I'm a free account right now and only have two items listed. I DO like that the front page is recently listed items. Will I leave Etsy? Heck no.. not yet anyway! I will probably sign up for the $7 a month deal. I know my scarves are seasonal though, so I hope I do well enough that I won't feel like I'm "wasting" money.

---

Anyway, I looked at the results of the poll from yesterday. Seems like most of you are in your 20's and feel younger than you really are. :) I'm glad I'm not alone. Some days I feel 16.

New monster!

This one is mine, but come get your own!

I think I'm going to rent Baby Mama tonight. It looked really cute on the previews, but I'm unsure.

Ages

Hey! This is something I've been thinking about this morning so I decided to make a poll. I'd like to know how which age brackets my readers fall into and if they FEEL their age or if they feel younger/older. I know a lot of people have preconceived notions about what a certain age will feel like until they reach that age. I know when I was 17 I really wanted to be 18 but once I had my 18th birthday, I didn't feel any differently.

So, please vote in the polls to the right. Be sure to vote in both polls! I'm really interested to see the results.

Thanks!

Food thief!

I just did a Google search for ways to discourage my kitten from stealing food off of my plate. The sites weren't too much help, as I'm already doing the loud "NO" when she makes a move toward my plate.

I found this on Craigslist:
$100 to steal my roommate's cat

I'm pretty sure that's fake. It was a good read. I love the part about what the roommate keeps in the microwave.

Are you intrigued yet?

Thursday, December 11, 2008

Hmm...

I'm not too sure what I think about this guy.

Oooh-lala

Oh, what a sweet boyfriend I have!

Look what he posted!!

Anyway, we're off to the Redbox machine. If they have The Dark Knight, it's ours. If not, oh well. I found a site with codes for the redbox and using the Promo code "REDBOX" gets you a free rental!

Also, The Thrifty Mama has codes for a free movie rental on Sunday's. She also posts on Mondays with a free code for Monday night. Definitely worth a trip to your nearest Redbox!

Wow

I was buzzed at Ohana Mama today. I think this is sooooo neat! Thank you to Erin Tales for commenting about the buzz!

Look what Friday's mail brought me!

Friday, I went to the mailbox and saw I had a package. I eagerly headed inside to tear that baby open!

What was inside?

A box! Oh wow, a box all to myself? I've always..ooh, there's something inside.

Gasp! And they're so pretty too. :)

Wainbowmudd makes such high quality hair clippies! I've been wearing mine since I got them on Friday. Ok, I take them off to go to bed, but you get the point. They are so perfect for me because I have gotten in the habit of wearing clips ever since I decided I would look AWESOME with bangs..but didn't look so hot.

I love them so much. The biggest thing I've noticed is that they're easy to get even if they're at the bottom of my purse. Try that with plain ol' bobby pins. It's not going to happen! These are so strong and could probably hold my bangs back through a hurricane.

Run, don't walk to Wainbowmudd 's shop to buy some of these!

Banners

I added some banners for some very talented Etsians today. You can find them in the right side column, as you're scrolling down. I found these lovely folks by making a post in the forum regarding free promo. :) If you are a blog reader and you have a 100x100 banner, I'd be glad to list you also! I want to keep under 16 on the side, so it's not too overwhelming. (It was initially going to be 8, but I just can't say no!)

I also woke up to a *possible* custom order, so my day has just taken an upward turn.

Bad day, so far

Today is off to a really bad start. I had to take the CLAST mathematics test. I studied my butt off for it even though everyone said it was really easy. I did really well on the practice tests, but then I got in there and sat down at the computer and scratched my head in confusion the entire time.
I failed. It was mostly algebra and I'm more of a real lifey liberal artsy math kinda gal.

I'm not proud of it and I'm feeling really bummed.

I'm trying to cheer myself up by playing Canasta on pogo.com.

So this isn't all words of disappointment, I feel it worthy of mentioning that I made a Domo-kun for my boyfriend.

Hehe, I'm all exclamation points today!

McDonald's Slogans

My boyfriend and I were in the car several nights ago and we were talking about past McDonald's slogans. I can remember three of them. "I'm lovin' it", "Have you had your break today?" and "We love to see you smile!"

Can anyone remember any more?

From Wikipedia: "To date, McDonald's has used 23 different slogans in United States advertising, as well as a few other slogans for select countries and regions."

Off topic- My friend is bringing me her cat today to add to my mix. Her apartment complex isn't letting her keep her, so new kitty for us! I'm so excited for the cat. Her name is Tilly. However, I'm also really sad for my friend because I'd be *so* depressed if I had to relocate my existing cat.

Cupcake Catnip Toy

My kitty always loses her toys so last night I decided to make her one out of materials I already had, instead of going out to buy her more cat toys. I swear, one day I'm going to find an underground bunker with all of her cat toys that she is hiding from me. It makes me wonder- are her toys more for her enjoyment, or mine? Haha, anyway, she appreciated the effort.

Finished!

I can't wait for him to be sent to his new home. :)

Did you have a great Holiday?

I hope everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving! This is the only thing I worked on hehe. I put it away yesterday and I'm about to go sew on the face. It is a custom order and I was so excited to do it :) I like how bright and primary it is. It reminds me of being young(er).

Acuvue Oasys

Yesterday I went to the eye doctor and he said "hey, let's try a pair of Acuvue Oasys." I agreed.

25 hours later, I was finally able to remove the contacts from my eyes.

The struggle began around 6 pm yesterday.

Needless to say, I'm going back to my Acuvue 2. I have been wearing contacts for 4.5 years.. with no problem removing them- not even the first time. You'd think I'd be ecstatic that they were so moist... but quite the contrary. I was scared monster-less when I couldn't remove them.

I feel relieved.

Preview

I've been busy. :) I currently have three monsters waiting for their faces. Not the greatest picture but I'll take a better one when I list them on Etsy, of course. The yellow is BRIGHT! I'm really proud with the way the wavy design turned out.

Also, the purple and green (yes, it's green. Washed out picture :/) is the softest and most plush thing I have ever felt.

Finally, the bright blue scarf is adult size!

Also, I started another adult size scarf. This one is turning out just as plush as the purple and green.

I'm not sure when these monsters will be getting their faces as I have a test to study for over the weekend, as well as another project to work on.

Hm, that's all! Just thought an update would be appropriate!

Attention Kid Shops!

A fellow Etsian, Vidia2be posted here about a charity drive her young daughter is trying to put together. Vidia is good people, so check out her post and try to contribute something if you can! I think it's very sweet of her daughter to be this considerate at such a young age.

It puts a big smile on this scarfmonster's face.

Google Base

Today I was perusing the forums and stumbled upon an old post, describing how to get your items into Google Shopping results.

http://www.etsy.com/forums_thread.php?thread_id=5809590

The whole process took me 5 minutes and it wasn't hard at all. My items are currently waiting to be published, but the upload was successful.

I'm not sure how much this will really help, but anything is worth a try!

Here is Frank's disgruntled cousin, Mildred.

She and I have great adventures together.

Did you know Mildred is the Scrabble master of Ohio?

How she got to Ohio from Florida, I'll never know, but she is.

Honest...I have the plaque to prove it.

...

Seriously.

Hmm

The past few days, I've been asked whether or not I make adult size scarves. I think this is something I'm going to include in my etsy shop very soon! Keep an eye out!

Monster cards!

These came in the mail for me today and I'm in love.

Welcome home, Poseidon

I was at Walmart tonight with the boyfriend and saw all of the betta fish looking sad. There was one that made eye contact with me and flapped his little fins gleefully, so I took him home and named him Poseidon.

Yes, I named him after my scarf monster.

Scarfmonsters to the rescue!

Scarfmonsters opened on November 2, 2008 and we have had our first sale! By we, I mean all three of the people who live in my head. Cuckoo!

http://www.scarfmonsters.etsy.com

I anticipate listing some items over the next few weeks as classes slow down.

Tootles!
